Best GSTR-2B reconciliation tools in India (2026)
Excel, Tally imports, GSP-connected suites and AI reconciliation agents compared for matching GSTR-2B and IMS against your purchase register, with prices and the mismatch types each handles.
By DotZero Research
Quick answer. Below about 100 purchase invoices a month, the GST portal’s downloads and a careful Excel template are enough. Between 100 and a few thousand, Tally’s built-in reconciliation or the GST module of your return suite (CompuTax, KDK Spectrum) handle matching but not supplier follow-up or IMS actions. Enterprises use ClearTax, Cygnet, IRIS or Masters India with GSP access. Firms that reconcile for dozens of clients increasingly run an AI reconciliation agent that matches, classifies, proposes IMS actions, chases suppliers and computes safe-to-claim ITC, then hands the exception list to the CA.
Why this got harder in 2025 and 2026
GSTR-3B liability is hard-locked, the Invoice Management System makes inaction a decision (deemed acceptance around the 14th), credit notes can be kept pending with an ITC-reduction declaration, the three-year filing bar closes old gaps, and Rule 37A reverses ITC on suppliers who never filed. Reconciliation is no longer a year-end tidy-up; it is a monthly control with two working days of slack. We explain the mechanics in GSTR-2B reconciliation in 2026 and the IMS rules in GST IMS explained.

What to test before you buy
Take one real month for one messy client and check:
- Reference normalisation. Does
DF/0781matchDF-0781? If not, you will spend your time on false mismatches. - Explanations. Does each mismatch say why (credit note, supplier not filed, not booked), or just flag it?
- IMS output. Does the tool produce accept, reject and pending actions you can upload, or do you re-key them on the portal?
- Safe-to-claim. Does it compute ITC available in 2B, ITC per books, the safe claim and the amount on hold under Rule 37A?
- Follow-up. Does anything go to the supplier, automatically, with the invoice details?
- Access. GSP with OTP, or your password? Only the first is acceptable.
Who should pick what
- Single business, under 100 purchases a month: portal downloads plus Excel, reviewed by your CA.
- Business with 100 to 1,000 purchases, Tally user: Tally reconciliation for matching, plus a process for supplier reminders. Automation becomes worthwhile when reminders and IMS actions eat staff time.
- CA firm with 30 to 300 clients: the return suite’s GST module for matching is the floor; the firm’s time goes to chasing and IMS, which is what an agent automates. The accounting demo runs a full reconciliation on sample data so you can see the output format.
- Enterprise with hundreds of suppliers: a GSP-grade platform, integrated with the ERP.
